Blaze Bandana Pattern

The Blaze Bandana was designed for my son’s girlfriend after seeing her wearing a head scarf with effortless style. I wanted to give her a handmade gift that captured her vibrant personality.

This design is a simple, yet striking corner-to-corner project, using clusters of half double crochet that create a soft, textured fabric. The glowing color way -Blaze- brings the piece to life, echoing the fiery tones of autumn.

I added a delicate picot edge to finish the design, giving it a soft decorative touch that makes it equally beautiful as a bandana or lightweight scarf. Wether worn for warmth or as a statement, the Blaze Bandana is a joy to make - and a cozy piece to wear.

Abbreviations

β€’ ch – chain

β€’ sl st – slip stitch

β€’ hdc – half double crochet

β€’ st(s) – stitch(es)

Notes

β€’ Worked diagonally corner-to-corner (C2C).

β€’ Each block is 3 hdc.

β€’ This version increases every row to form a large right-angle triangle.

β€’ Keep going until you run out of yarn or reach your desired size.

Pattern

Starting Block

1. Ch 4.

2. Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and 4th ch from hook.

β€’ The first 2 chains count as 1 hdc. Together with the 2 hdc just made = 3 hdc total = 1 block.

Row 2

1. Ch 4, turn.

2. Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and 4th ch from hook (new block).

3. Sl st into the edge of the previous block (top of last hdc).

4. Work 3 hdc into the same space. (2 blocks total)

Row 3

1. Ch 4, turn. Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and 4th ch from hook (first block).

2. Sl st into block edge, 3 hdc into same space across to end of row. (3 blocks total)

Continuing

β€’ Repeat Row 3 structure.

β€’ Each row starts with ch 4 + 2 hdc for the new block, then continues across by working (sl st, 3 hdc) into each block edge.

β€’ Each row increases by 1 block, growing the triangle larger.

Finishing

β€’ Stop when your piece is as large as you like β€” bandana length, shawl size, or even a blanket corner.

β€’ Fasten off, weave in ends.

β€’ Wet block or steam block to open stitches and smooth edges.

β€’ Optional: add fringe, tassels, or a simple sc/hdc border.

Picot Edge

β€’ Round 1: sc evenly around (as in option 1).

β€’ Round 2: (sc in next 2 sts, ch 3, sl st in 1st ch β€” picot made) repeat.

πŸ‘‰ This gives a dainty, lacy edge but still minimal.
