From Fiber to Finished Skein
One of my favorite parts of being a fiber artist is seeing a braid transform into a finished skein. Every step reveals something new, and no matter how many times I spin, it still feels a little like magic.
This skein began as Beach Sunset, one of my hand-dyed Merino × Rambouillet Superwash colorways. The soft washes of coral, peach, blush pink, golden yellow, and pops of berry reminded me of the colors that linger in the sky just before the sun disappears below the horizon.
For this spin, I wanted a yarn that felt cozy and inviting. I spun a chunky single and plied it into a soft, squishy yarn with plenty of loft. The finished skein has beautiful barber-pole color changes that create movement without overwhelming the eye. Every few inches brings a new combination of colors.
One of the reasons I love this fiber blend is how effortlessly it drafts. The Merino brings incredible softness, while the Rambouillet adds elasticity and bounce. Because it’s superwash, the colors stay bright and vibrant, making it especially fun to spin and knit.
This skein would make a wonderful beanie, cowl, or great addition to a sweater or shawl.
If you’ve ever wanted to try spinning hand-dyed fiber, this is a forgiving and enjoyable blend that’s suitable for a wide range of spinning styles. Whether you like spinning fine yarns or chunky, cozy skeins, this fiber is happy to become whatever you imagine.
